Getting your bangs to hang in the land of Shrinkage.

Your Gift & Calling: Finding Them.

To clarify yesterday's post, I don't think a gift, and a calling are the exact same thing.

To me, a gift is something you are naturally good at doing. It looks effortless when you do it & you enjoy doing it.
A calling is defined as a strong inner urge to follow an occupation.

Sometimes the two cross, and one's gift becomes their calling. Oprah.

So, how do you find one or the other?
I think a calling is easier.
You don't really find it at all. You just know!
You feel it. You feel a constant inner pull towards doing one specific thing.

What Is Your Calling?

I watched Oprah's Final Show...tear. Tears.

So touching.

On the final Oprah Show, Oprah spoke about everyone having a calling. She then encouraged viewers to figure out what their calling truly is, and then go about the business of doing it.

I've posted similar words here about everybody having a gift to share with the world, and I truly believe this

What is your gift?
The hardest part is either figuring this out, or, getting started on making it happen. For some people, both of these things are difficult. For others, it is all so simple.

For me, I now know what my gift is, and I've been taking baby steps to get there & own it. It is exciting. It is scary. It IS work. I know I don't have all the answers, but I refuse to waste anymore time being bound by fear.

Restaurant Quality Tomato Salsa...the Secret!

Yes! When my sister asked me how to make Pepe's Mexican Restaurant salsa at home, I couldn't wait to research recipes for a copycat...but, I hadn't had Pepe's in years.

I do remember some of my favorite Mexican restaurant tomato salsas though. They're always fresh & tomato-ey, with just a tad bit of heat. They are also served with warm, freshly fried tortilla chips. YUM! One day I will make my own tortillas from scratch, but will begin with this salsa.
So, what's the secret?

1 (14.5 oz.) can black beans (drained & rinsed)

Orange is the Worst Kool-Aid Flavor, Ever.*

There. I said it! LOL
Husband & I were having a random, yet entertaining discussion about Kool-Aid flavors, after he brought home Tropical Punch, Grape, Cherry, & Orange Kool-Aid from the grocery store.

I saw a couple of orange packets on the table & had to tell him my feelings.
Orange is my least favorite flavor. I'll take lemon over orange. That goes for Starburst, Tootsie Roll Pops, Skittles, Sour Skittles, and Kool-Aid. LOL

*This opinion is based on what I consider "Primary Kool-Aid flavors"...cherry, tropical punch, orange, grape, lemon-lime, & lemonade.

The Button Box.

The box was given to me with a Christmas present inside, several years ago.

I have this thing where I can't throw away nice packages/bags/boxes. It's bad enough when nice wrapping paper has to go in the trash, because no matter how carefully you try to unwrap it, a rip comes & ruins everything.
Whenever I open a beautifully wrapped gift, I feel this slight uneasiness about undoing someone's thoughtful labor.
I digress.

Blogger Technical Difficulties.

If you're a liker of the MerelyMarie Facebook page...or a Blogger blogger, you may know about the recent problems with Blogger.

For awhile, I couldn't make any new posts. Now, I can...obviously. LOL
However, posts that I made yesterday: Pea-less, Carrot-less Pork Fried Rice, Egg Rolls, and Sweet and Sour Sauce, along with any comments are currently missing. Blogger says they are resolving this issue.

Being Who You Are: But, What if you're Quiet?

Realizing things about yourself can be like a light bulb being turned on. Theres this instantaneous "Oh!" feeling.

My mother tells me how quiet a baby I was, when I cried. If she was in the next room, she could barely hear me...my cries were so faint.
On report card day, my teachers would often tell my mother how good a student I was, how they wished they had more student's like me, and would write the word "quiet" on the back of my card.
Classmates & co-workers would use the same word to describe me. Quiet.

I always knew I was a person of few (spoken) words, but it wasn't until recently that these pieces came together in my mind.
Oh!

The Braid Out: A Photo Tutorial.

• Start out with clean hair.
• Wash, deep condition, & apply a light leave-in conditioner.
Optional:
For a shiny braid out, apply a light oil or hair serum.
For more hold, use a light setting lotion.

Beware not to overdo it on products, as they will weigh your hair down & make it feel greasy. The best braid out are soft, fluffy, lovely-scented, defined (yet natural-looking), and in my book of personal preferences...BIG;)

I want a Real Telephone.

Thanks Netflix for sending not one, not two, but three consecutive disks of Mad Men Season 4! So tough, not to watch these episodes back to back in one weekend.

This show makes me want to visit my nearest thrift store to find an old rotary. It'd be cute, until I needed to walk about three feet away from the telephone base, and the cord somehow becomes tangled in knots.

Two Down: Off Me Meds Update.

I fell off.
I ate less veggies, drank less water, & exercised half a handful of times. My skin shows it all. It's dry, dull-looking, & far from clear.

Although I still love not having to put prescriptions on my face, I feel so lazy. In addition to my daily regimen of washing & moisturizing, I think I need a once or even twice a week treatment to exfoliate & pamper. Not to mention, all of the things I did internally, last month.

Early this morning, I got up & did this again.
RHCP sang it best..."Complete the motion, if you stumble".

American. Chinese. Italian. Mexican!

Ground beef, steak, chicken, and most recently, ground turkey.
No matter the protein, I love tacos! I wish I weren't allergic to fish. Are fish tacos good? Never mind, I don't think I want to know.
Quesadillas. Nachos. Salsa. Pico de gallo. Taco Salad. Burritos. Enchiladas...thanks sis for introducing me to this one! I love Mexican food!
Spoon on some Mexican rice, refried frijoles & a wedge of lime, and I'm in heaven.
I think I can eat Mexican food every day.
Ask Husband, & he'll say we already do.
