Marie's Tips: Hey Mrs. Shorty Pants!
Shopping is fun, but can get a bit frustrating when the knee breaks of new pants or jeans, break somewhere around your calf, and the fabric forms a puddle around & under your feet.
There are ways around this. Believe it or not, you don't have to walk around with your jeans scrapping the ground.
You have options:)
If you are short and looking for shopping & dressing tips, but not quite sure where to start; I'm so excited to share with you what I've learned. If you're body type is petite (like mines), then the following & upcoming tips may especially help you.
Let's get started with Pants & Denim...
• Opt to purchase bottoms labeled "short" or "petite"...and sometimes, "ankle length".
These lengths are designed to fit & flatter shorter legs.
Wearing ankle length as full length can be tricky, especially if there is distressing/accents/detailing around the knee area. Because it hits you somewhere below your actual knee, it can make you look disproportionate. Try on some dark colored pants & solid washed jeans to avoid this. If you like detailing, just beware of contrasting stitching & heavy embellishments. The cleaner the lines, the better ankle length will work for you; as full length pants or jeans.
Before you buy any of these lengths, try them on to see & feel how they look on you.
• Get pants & jeans tailored to your specific height.
Ever fall in love with a pair of jeans that were so comfortable...they fit you like a glove everywhere, but they were just too long?
At this point you have to take them to the tailor, or hem them yourself (I learned how to do this by hand, via Google search. If you're interested in Do-It-Yourself, just let me know in a message below, and I'll find the tutorial & either link it later, or do a separate post on it.)
When tailoring is involved, plan ahead.
Whether it's heels or flats that you plan to wear them your pants with (the most), wear those shoes to the tailor fitting. This way your bottoms are sure to look their best in your chosen shoe height. If your heels aren't too high & you also wear flats regularly, sometimes you can get away with hemming somewhere in the middle. If you go this route (and it is well executed), you'll end up getting the most wear out of your newly tailored pants.
• Know your Inseam.
Inseams really are the key to obtaining your perfect pant & denim length. Just have the length of your leg measured. If you wear heels often, add on the heel height of your shoe; and that should be the inseam you want to shop for.
Usually, I try to find bottoms with a 30 inch inseam. 31, if I'm wearing "heels". This way, I don't have to worry about tailoring.
And, that's all I have to share about pants & denim. Hope this helps you in some way.
